Keyhole Spays
We are now offering Keyhole Spays for our Canine patients, over 8kg.
What is a keyhole Spay?
For pets, as in humans, keyhole surgery is a minimally invasive alternative to the common open surgeries performed on patients.
The most common procedure we perform is a Laparoscopic Ovariectomy. This is the alternative to a routine spay. With this we only remove the ovaries, using a camera to visualise them and long instruments to operate.
This leaves our pets with two little incisions which are then glued so there are no sutures to remove.
Benefits:
- Reduced post operative pain.
- Quicker post operative recovery.
- Smaller wounds.
- Lower risk of wound breakdown.
- Reduced trauma and inflammation.
- Often no buster collar or pet shirt needed.
Does it hurt?
Keyhole surgery is minimally invasive surgery, meaning less pain and a better recovery! Keyhole spays have been shown to be better for our pets compared to routine spays. This is continually being confirmed with clinical studies.
How safe is it?
Significant evidence shows keyhole surgery is at least as safe and effective as open surgery. This includes keyhole spays.
Are there any other benefits?
Yes, Plenty! To name just a few:
a quicker surgical recovery, less required rest at home, fewer post operative complications and often no buster collar or pet shirt required.
